10 DIY Christmas Wreath Ideas

I am so excited to have teamed up with 9 other bloggers to bring you 10 DIY Christmas Wreath Ideas! First I will share how I created a Nautical Christmas Wreath, and then be sure to follow the links at the bottom of this post to check out what the other fabulous ladies created.

My original idea was to make something more rustic and earthy out of pinecones or wood slices. However, after seeing so many amazing blogger versions I decided to go another route.

One night while lying in bed I noticed the shadow of one of the ship helms on our wall resembled a snowflake. Keep in mind that this was after hours of staring at Christmas crafts on Pinterest, and I had even told Eric that the corner of his pillow looked like a tree, lol.

That’s when I decided to go for a snowflake inspired, nautical Christmas wreath.

Here is a before photo of the ship helm I used for this project, which I had picked up at HomeGoods over the summer.

You may remember this Nautical Ship Helm Wreath I made back in June from a different ship wheel I found at an antique shop.

Here are the Materials I used on the Nautical Christmas Wreath:

Most of these items I either already had on hand or I purchased on sale at JoAnn’s and Michael’s. I have included affiliate links to similar products above.

The first thing I did was start to wrap the snowflake lights around the ship wheel to decide how I wanted them to look.

I attached the battery pack to the back of the ship helm using removable putty. I don’t know what brand this was because it’s been in our drawer forever, but this stuff is amazing!

Next I made a super quick twig Christmas tree to attach to the center of the ship helm {also attached with the putty}. I pretty much followed the same directions you can see here from my DIY twig tree ornament, except I didn’t add ribbon or any twigs to the back since it wouldn’t be visible.

I then removed the plastic hanging ties from the snowflake ornaments and covered one side with silver glitter spray to get them extra sparkly. I want to say the pack of 8 only set me back about $2 at Joann’s. Not too shabby.

Once the snowflakes were dry I placed them where I wanted on the ship wheel and attached them using removable putty {you could also use a glue gun but I wanted  to go the most temporary, easy, and mess-free way}. Afterwards I sprayed on a couple coats of fake snow.

I then spray painted a gold-colored wreath hanger with leftover blue paint from my Mason Jar Chandelier, followed by more glitter spray paint to give it a more wintery vibe. I added a sparkly bow {with ribbon I bought at Michael’s for 70% off, woo-hoo!} and voila, my Nautical Christmas Wreath was finished!

One thing I will say about the lights is they are super bright when lit up. If I had paid closer attention I would have purchased warm lights rather than cool ones. Here it is all lit up:
