It’s fall, ya’ll and that means that Halloween is just around the corner! I recently teamed up with 2 other bloggers, Corey at Tiny Sidekick and Sarah at This Sarah Loves to bring you 3 Front Door Halloween Decor Ideas. First I will share my neutral DIY mini pumpkin wreath, and then you can click through to visit my friend’s Halloween decor at the bottom of this post.

My favorite thing about this neutral fall wreath is that I am able to have it up for fall, yet with a few little tweaks it easily transitions into Halloween. This wreath was pretty simple to make, and since I already had some of the materials on hand this baby cost me less than $10!

The first thing I did was pick up a grapevine wreath for less than $3 at JoAnn’s after a 40% off coupon.

I then searched EVERYWHERE for small plastic pumpkins that I could paint white because I figured that would be the best option. However, I didn’t find any that I liked at a price I liked, so I went with real pumpkins instead. I bought a couple bags of mini pumpkins at $2.99 each and then painted them white.

Of course, if you want to make a more permanent pumpkin wreath I would recommend finding the fake ones.

I was looking for faux mini pumpkins in October {which you think would be easy to find} but apparently they were mostly sold out. You shouldn’t have a problem finding them early in fall or afterwards on discount, especially at craft stores. I found some this year at Walmart for less than $1 each.

So again, I was short on time and super impatient so I went with what I could find locally, which was real mini pumpkins. Sure they will need to be thrown out in a month or two, but they look super cute and I’ll still be able to re-use the wreath.

For this reason, I used wire and twine to attach the pumpkins to the wreath {no glue} so that I can easily detach them when necessary.

The wire scratched some of the white paint off, so I simply did some touch-ups afterward. I also tucked some loose moss in between the branches and tied a burlap bow on top. This is what my fall wreath looks like:

How to easily transition the wreath for Halloween:

To get it ready for Halloween I simply wrote on a wood shim chalkboard tag – the same kind I made for our DIY beverage tags – and tied it to the wreath using twine.

Voila! My transitional Fall/Halloween wreath that didn’t require any glue! What do you think?

  1. What a great idea to paint your pumpkins white! I know I should have thought of that myself, but??? I went to Trader Joe’s today and they had a lot of orange pumpkins, but not one white one. I’m going to go back and get them for 69 cents and paint them 🙂
I love your creative and economical posts!

    1. Thank you so much Clara! I love Trader Joes but haven’t been there in a few weeks so I will definitely have to hit them up when I need some more pumpkins to paint!

    1. Thanks Amberly! I actually tried to use fishing line first, but guess the kind I had on hand wasn’t strong enough because it kept breaking. The wire worked great though and I was afraid that opening and closing the door so often may cause them to fall, but nope they are hanging on strong 🙂

  2. I love it! I like that its got the Fall/Halloween vibe without being glaringly, well, orange and brown. I like fall colors, but sometimes they get to be too much! I think I already pinned it…but I’ll pin it again just in case!!! 🙂
