I LOVE outdoor weddings because you have the opportunity to blend the rustic elements of nature with pops of vintage class to create an understated elegance. I like to refer to this as “rustic-chic”.

Although we ultimately decided to go with a cabin resort for our wedding, I have decided to sporadically highlight other venues I think brides may be interested in. I know how time consuming and stressful it can be to find the “perfect” place for your special day, and I hope that these posts will help narrow down the search for you 🙂

Today I am sharing information about McGuire’s Millrace Farm, which I actually found out about through a reader whose friend was married there {thank you Andrea!}. So if you are looking for an outdoor wedding, a barn wedding, a farm wedding, or a southern themed wedding, I encourage you to read on…

McGuire’s Millrace Farm: Murphy, North Carolina

McGuire’s Millrace Farm is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, making it the perfect backdrop for your “destination wedding”. It is surrounded by golf courses, hiking trails, restaurants and shopping. not to mention it’s a short two-hour drive from Chattanooga, TN, Asheville NC, and Atlanta, GA.

The venue offers multiple wedding site options, breathtaking views and a tucked away atmosphere. What more could you ask for in an outdoor wedding venue? Many couples choose to have their ceremony located by the rustic wood trellis surrounded by rows of birch trees, however, you are able to paint your own picture anywhere that will make your day perfect.

The Barn is 6,600 square feet {WOW!} and includes an elegant fireplace making it the ideal place to hold your reception. The Barn also has his and her dressing rooms, and a 12’ projection screen with surround sound that is perfect for slideshows to display to your guests.

The McGuire family has owned and operated the 110 acre farm for 6 generations, and even built everything on site, including some that are Pre-Civil War! They have conveniently placed all the wedding sites, facilities, parking lot, and The Old Millhouse Lodge within easy walking distance of each other. By paying such close attention to the layout of the grounds, they have made it accessible for all of your family and friends, insuring that a good time is had by all.

If you would like for your family to stay close to the event and have plenty of room to get ready, then you can reserve The Old Millhouse Lodge, which can accommodate up to 30 guests. There are also several cabins and hotels available nearby.

While having your wedding at the farm you will have exclusive access to everyone that works onsite. If you plan your wedding for the outdoors and weather becomes a factor, the staff will be on hand to easily move the ceremony inside at no extra charge to you. Plus they do not book multiple weddings or receptions on the same day, insuring that your day is exclusively for you and your guests.

When it comes to decorating your ceremony and reception site you are more than welcome to bring your own décor. However, you also have the option to use what they have on location to create your dream wedding atmosphere. Sturdy solid oak tables and chairs, antique church pews, oak whiskey barrels, vintage jars, chalkboard signs and ambient lighting are just a few of the many settings available for your special day. Inside or out, your reception is sure to represent your individual style and beauty.

One of the great things revolving around this venue is how flexible they are, and the ability to work with you and your budget to create exactly what you want. If you choose to forgo any of the services provided on site, they have many outside companies you could use via their website, or you could bring in your own.

A wedding and reception on a Saturday in 2013 will be approximately: $4,250 plus meal costs, bar setup (if needed) and servers at $100 each.

Weddings and hot buffet receptions are available on Fridays and Sundays at a $500 discount, and Mondays-Thursdays are discounted by $600.

If this is not within your budget, please contact the farm to discuss options to meet your budget needs.
