Modern Gold DIY Save the Date

Planning a modern, art-deco, or hollywood regency inspired wedding? Save money by personalizing this digital Modern Gold DIY Save the Date with your own wedding details, and then print as many copies as you need!

The PDF Files included in this purchase can be edited with the latest version of Adobe Reader, which you can download for free here. However, the design elements and color cannot be changed.

After designing this set for our friend’s wedding using paid fonts, I decided to create an editable version, using free fonts that you can easily personalize. I actually have a FREE version of this template with the border available here. It’s only the PNG file and set up 2 per page, but if that’s all you need you should definitely check it out.

You can find the matching invitation set HERE.

This DIY Save the Date includes two templates (one with a border and the other without), and includes both the PNG files as well as the editable PDF templates. The files are also set up as single templates, and two per page.

How to Edit

Editing the templates with Adobe Reader/Acrobat:

The PDF Files included in this purchase can be edited with the latest version of Adobe Reader, which you can download for free here. However, the design elements and color cannot be changed.

The two fonts used in this set are available to download for free (for personal use only). You will need to download and install these fonts before opening the PDF files so that it will open up and look like the samples. You can find the links under the “Fonts Used” Tab.

Editing Tips Often Overlooked:

I currently don’t have any tutorials on editing the files with Adobe Reader, but a couple things you may want to keep in mind:

If you see a black (+) show up inside a text box, reduce the font size or change the font type and that should go away.

If you are having issues editing a specific text box or adding text to it, delete EVERYTHING inside it first.

From there you can add your own text back and can edit the fonts, sizes and spacing within the properties toolbar. To do this just make sure the properties toolbar is open using Command + E (on a Mac) or Ctrl + E (on a PC). You need to have this toolbar open to make changes to the fonts, sizes and spacing.

If you’re unable to type all of your text in the box, you may need to change the font type or reduce the font. You can often re-adjust the font size or type afterwards.

From the properties toolbar you can select the font type and size or click on the “More” tab followed by the “Paragraph” Tab to change the spacing either above or below certain text, in addition to the left or right. You can also change the alignment of the text from this area.

I plan to add a tutorial for this in the near future, and most people already know how to use the property toolbar but I like to mention these things for those that are not familiar with it.

Prefer to Edit the PNG templates?

The PNG templates included are essentially flattened designs that you can add your own text on top of, but none of the text or design elements can be moved, edited or deleted, and the colors cannot be changed. Although sample text is not included, you can add your own details with photo editing software or at PicMonkey.com. You can view my tutorials for adding or removing text with PicMonkey here. You can also download and use or test one of my free DIY invitation templates first to see if you are comfortable editing this type of template before you purchase.

How to Save if you Plan to Print Professionally:

If you are editing the PNG templates, printing from home, or from the computer you have the fonts installed on then you can ignore this.

The fonts included in this set cannot be embedded into the PDF documents, which means the computer you print from will need to have these fonts installed in order for them to show up correctly. Basically, all this means is that if you plan to take the files to a professional print shop they likely will not have these fonts installed, and the templates may not print correctly. Don’t worry though because there’s an easy way to convert the files to JPGs so that they will show up and print just as you have them set up.

First off, if you are using Adobe Acrobat Pro then all you have to do is go to File –> Export to –> Image. From there you will want to select “JPG” and check the “settings” button before saving to make sure you have the quality set to Maximum and the Resolution to 300/pixels/inch. You can also make these setting changes under
“Preferences”.

However, if you are using a FREE version of Adobe Reader then you will want to do the following:

From a Mac

After you have saved the templates with your personalized information you will want to open the PDF documents in the application “Preview”.  From there go to FILE -> Export and then select JPG as the format, make sure the Quality is set to “highest” and change the Resolution to “300” pixels/inch. You can then send the converted JPG files to the print shop and they will print as you see them on your computer.

This may seem confusing, but it’s actually super easy. However, if you have any questions about this feel free to email me. Or if you would feel more comfortable, you can email the files to me and I’ll be happy to convert them for you.

If you are going to edit the PNG templates with a program like PicMonkey then you can add your text like normal, and just make sure to “save as JPG” when you’re finished.

Fonts Used

The two fonts used in this set are available to download for free (for personal use only). You will need to download and install these fonts before opening the PDF files so that it will open up and look like the samples.

Here are the download links for the fonts used:

FREE fonts (for personal use)

Charlevoix Pro (in all caps)

Paduka Script (the paid version is also available here – affiliate link)

Printing

You are free to print as many copies as you need and can print from home or send to an online/local print shop. I recommend printing professionally such as a office supply shop (like Staples) or at a local or online print shop.

Ink colors can vary greatly depending on the printer used, and may appear different from what you see on screen. For that reason I cannot guarantee that your printer will deliver true-to color results.

Metallic Paper

If you are looking for paper and envelope options, we purchase most of our paper and envelopes from Paper and More and love their products, prices, and customer service. I love their metallic linen paper for this set because it brings out the golden colors. However, Staples has a really pretty metallic ivory card stock paper that this set prints beautifully on!

Side Note: Please be sure to specify that you DO NOT want the files scaled to fit, unless you don’t mind if the files are scaled down about a quarter of an inch. I have found that some local print shops do this unless you specify otherwise.
