Can you believe it’s now 2014 and that 2013 has come and gone? It was a fabulous year and one I will never forget.

Today I am reflecting back on 2013 and wanted to share my thoughts with you, in addition to my 2014 “word of the year”.

2013 Reflection & 2014 Word of the Year

My initial reason for starting Upcycled Treasures a year ago was to have a place to share furniture projects with friends and family, especially after overcoming my issues with CRPS, which you can read about here. I then fell into this wonderful world of blogging and in doing so discovered other interests and passions I didn’t even know existed within myself. It has been a fun, challenging, exhausting, stressful, hectic, and absolutely rewarding year!

In the beginning of 2013 I had become fascinated with extreme couponing and the amount of money we were able to save as a result. You may not know this but I actually wrote several posts about couponing and deals I was getting. This lasted through April but I quickly realized how time-consuming it was and that there were other things I would rather spend my time on. I removed the posts from my blog since they were time-sensitive and no longer related to my site anyway.

Sure I still read other couponing blogs {when I have time} and use coupons when I can, especially now that I know how much we can save. However, I don’t get overly stressed if I have to run to the store and don’t have any coupons with me… Well, I try not to anyway, lol. Still, it’s funny to think about how much my blog has evolved since then.

Eric proposed to me in March which then led to my obsession with anything and everything wedding related. I was the girl that had never opened a bridal magazine or had given much thought to the big day prior (well aside from knowing I wanted to get married outdoors). Boy, how quickly that changed as I got to work planning our handcrafted wedding, which took place 7 months later! Working on and sharing my wedding projects also introduced me to new people and opportunities. Not to mention it was so much fun to plan!

You really never know what path your blog will lead you down as you follow your heart and your passion, but every day has been a blessing.

I have to admit that I have lots of interests and sometimes fear that what I’m sharing isn’t good enough. I am a perfectionist that can never get anything perfect. Go figure.

Do you ever feel that way? It’s a battle I face almost daily and I know, I need to get over it and most days I do. Some of my top posts are ones I questioned posting, and I even have painted furniture projects in our home I haven’t shared yet. Now that we are a few weeks from moving I may wait until we get all settled again.

Speaking of furniture projects,  you also may have noticed they slowed down as smaller craft projects have taken over. I still enjoy painting furniture but decided that until we move into a house, they will happen less often. Painting furniture in your dining room while pet hair flies around is not always easy, but I like to think I have managed quite well.

As my blog continues to transition, change and grow I hope you will continue to visit me and my DIY adventures, both big and small. I enjoy reading all of your comments and emails and truly appreciate the pins, shares and words of encouragement. So thank you!

2014 Word of the Year

I haven’t always been one for New Year’s Resolutions, although I like to write down yearly goals. This year, however, I have decided to pick one word to help keep me motivated throughout 2014. My 2014 word of the year is: Organize!

Yup, I could definitely use some more organization in my life. I am actually a very neat person but somehow managed to let go a little too much this year, and it’s been driving me crazy. I think that your health can also be a reflection of your home and ya know what, mine is not as clean as it could be. There, I said it. Whew I feel better already!

I enjoy challenges and helping people, and as a result I often take on more than I can manage. I need balance in my life but first need to be organized in order to achieve that balance. So that is why I have picked the word “organize” as my 2014 word of the year.

I am looking forward to organizing our home, organizing our finances, organizing my time, and organizing our meals so we can eat better and healthier. What about you? Did you pick a 2014 word of the year? If so I would love to hear about it in the comments

  1. I started 2013 out couponing also until I realized how time consuming it is. Then my husband took over and he has done a great job saving us money.

Organize is a great word for 2014. That is something I need to work on this year.

    1. That’s awesome! It really is amazing how much you can save when you stack coupons and sales! I went from cutting all the coupons, to organizing the inserts, back to cutting the coupons but it’s soooooo easy to get behind and end up with expired coupons in a shoebox waiting to be put into the binder. Eric is better at cutting them so he sticks to that while I organize them in the binder. That’s when we actually stay on track anyway, ha. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I decided to pick keywords this year too instead of doing a resolution! I always fail at my resolutions and just don’t like making them! Good luck with your organizing.

  3. Looks like you’ve had a really busy year! Organizing is such a great “resolution”…especially at this time of the year when I feel the need to purge, purge, purge and get everything in order. : )
