If you are planning a rustic style wedding, and you are not yet sick of mason jars {I know I’m not!}, then you may just want to have your guests drink out of them during your wedding reception.

This is what we did for our cabin wedding up in the North Carolina mountains,  and I even created some super simple DIY drink tags to add to each glass.

DIY Drink Tags

Of course, you could just go out and buy chalkboard tags, but they really are so simple to make. Besides,  you most likely already have everything you need on hand, especially if you are DIYing any other wedding projects.

I am even including a FREE printable with the drink tag shapes we used in case you want to do the same thing.

Printer

Cardstock or Kraft Paper

Scissors

Twine {bakers twine is a great option too}

Chalkboard paint

Hole Puncher

Chalk/Chalk Markers

Step 1:

Create the shape you want your labels to be in a program such as Word, illustrator, PicMonkey, etc. You can also download my FREE Printable Drink Tag Shapes at the bottom of this post.

Step 2:

Print out the drink tag shapes onto card stock or kraft paper. You could use regular copy paper but I think using something a little thicker is better, but make sure the paper you use isn’t too thick for your printer. I used some leftover kraft paper from our wedding Details enclosure cards.

Step 3:

Cut out the drink tag shapes.

Step 4:

Add chalkboard paint to the drink tags. I placed my cut up shapes inside a shoebox and used spray chalkboard paint, but you could also just paint some on.

Step 5:

Using a hole puncher, add 2 holes next to one another in the top center of each tag. I created 2 holes instead of 1 so that the tags would stay flat. The size of the hole puncher used will depend on how thick the twine {or bakers twine, yarn, etc.} you are using is.

Step 6:

Thread the twine in and out of the holes and then tie around the mason jar or drink glasses!

You can then place chalk or chalk markers out for your guests to write on them.

I also made some simple straw flags with our initials on one side and wedding date on the other, which matched the DIY time capsule box I created.

Or you can go the Faux Route . . .

And just in case you are wanting to make these extra easy, I am also including some faux chalkboard labels in the download too. You can add the names to the tags ahead of time using white text, and have them printed on white cardstock paper. If you decide to go this route I would recommend taking them to a local Office Max or Staples to be printed, so you don’t waste a lot of ink.
