Every once in a while you’ll come across a place that absolutely takes your breath away. Ouray, Colorado is that place.

It’s crazy to think that prior to RVing we had never even heard of this magical mountain town, often referred to as “America’s Switzerland”.

Exploring Colorado: Hooray for Ouray!

Once we began researching towns to explore in Colorado and mentioning our visit to fellow RV’ers, the name “Ouray” was brought up over and over again. Now that we’ve been there, it’s easy to see why!

Side Note: It’s pronounced “yer-ay” and you’ll notice we say it wrong a few times in the video.

We had to leave our RV at the repair shop for a week so they could work on it, and during that time we decided to rent a small cabin.  Finding a cabin that was available last-minute AND would allow all 3 of our fur babies, while still being affordable turned out to be a challenge. Luckily, we found one small cabin at an RV park, less than 30 minutes from Ouray.

I looked into dog friendly trails (have you met McNally?), and was especially excited about The Perimeter Trail, which encircles the town.

The video and photos don’t do this place justice, it’s something you can only experience in person.

Eric and I started acting all goofy during our hike because we were so in awe by the landscape surrounding us. It honestly felt as though we were walking through a painting!

There were some pretty steep areas, and you’ll want to make sure you wear good hiking shoes. This was our first time trying out McNally’s new backpack carrier and it definitely came in handy, especially during one area of the hike, right after you pass through the little cave. I had to hold onto the railing and don’t know how I could have done that, walked down the steps, and held onto McNally. If you watch the video you’ll see me shoving treats down his mouth trying to entice him to stay in the bag, haha.

The only downfall is we were super excited to grab a smoothie after our hike, only to find out there are no smoothie/juice shops downtown, boooooo. There are ice cream and coffee shops, but we were set on a smoothie. If that’s the only downside we could find, I’d say this place is doing pretty good.
