Joe and his wife Beth, who reside in the UK, spent their honeymoon traveling around Europe in a camper van. That trip inspired them to purchase a smaller micro van they could build out and travel in during their free time.

A musician and creative at heart, Joe completely transformed a once very dull and boring van, into a cozy camper filled with clever design solutions and quirky details. I especially love the Mexican tiles he installed in the kitchen and the brass pot he repurposed into a sink. He even documented the entire van build process on his YouTube channel.

What this camper van lacks in size it more than makes up for in character!

What inspired you to experience #Vanlife?

Well, we actually built our first camper for our honeymoon. We didn’t want to go down the whole 1-2 week break route and wanted to travel so we opted for building our own little home to travel around in and ventured round much of Europe.

How often do you travel?

camper van renovation details

Did you draw inspiration for this remodel from anything or anyone specific?

Yes, mostly from a company called Rustic Campers here in the UK who have some beautiful country-style designs that look like a lot of love has gone into them.

What’s your favorite aspect of interior design?

Just seeing the entire project taking shape and coming to life, especially seeing the little ideas come to fruition that are sort of made up as you go along but somehow end up working.

What are your favorite places to source products and decor?

eBay! Lots of great vintage items and tiles on there. Other than that, the local timber merchant!

What’s your favorite and least favorite aspect of tiny living?

Favourite is definitely the mobility/freedom and least favourite would probably be the limitation on space for hobbies.

What was most challenging about this micro van renovation?

Trying to fit it all in such a tight space! It certainly made you think carefully about how every inch was used and hope to carry this in to future builds.

What piece of advice would you give someone about to embark on a camper renovation?

Try not to set a deadline. Mistakes will be made and it will undoubtedly cost more than first thought so to enjoy as much as possible, try and give plenty of time and take the mistakes as a learning curve.

Where would your dream vacation be?

Iceland!

Most asked about product sources:

The repurposed tap and sink – this came used from eBay and also the touch-sensitive lights which are the Lumo LED9’s!

(You can find a list of products/tools used for the conversion over on Joe’s Youtube Channel)

Hear a sample of Joe Edward’s debut Album!

If you love music rooted in Folk, Blues, and Americana, I think you’ll really dig his music! You can hear a sample of the music included in his debut album above, which was recorded in Nashville, Tennesee. I’ve had the “Keep on Running” song in my head all throughout working on this post, haha.
