We have a massive master bedroom, in fact, we could probably fit our RV into it 2 times! Having a huge room certainly isn’t a bad thing, but figuring out what to do with the space, or how to break it up sometimes can be.
Since the hubs and I both work from home we figured it would be nice to have an extra office nook in our bedroom. There are times when I have some tight deadlines and may need to work late {or visa versa}, and even just being in the same room together is nice, especially since Eric travels so much for work. Of course, this would also need to be a more neutral working space that we could both feel inspired by, unlike my craft room which is just a little too… colorful for Eric’s taste.
So when World Market asked if I would like to team up to create a new office space using products from their new fall line, I jumped for joy! You probably think I’m exaggerating, but no I literally jumped for joy. I may have even knocked my chair over in the process. Haha.
If you follow my blog then you know how much I love all things rustic with a touch of modern and splash of industrial which is why I’m such a fan of World Market products. There were so many unique home office furniture options that it was difficult to narrow down my favorites, but here is the plan I put together for our new Modern Rustic Office Retreat:
Modern Rustic Office Retreat
Creating a mood board before decorating the space made everything soooooo much easier. I will absolutely be doing this more often and can’t believe I’ve gone this long without doing it. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve picked up furniture or accessories and then realized after I got home that it wouldn’t work. This definitely helps to eliminate that issue while keeping you on track with your design style and vision.
Not to mention this made it a lot easier to order nearly everything online while we were away on our first mini RV adventure. A couple of days later I had a bunch of packages delivered to our home, which made it really feel like Christmas in July. So much so that I snapped a photo with my phone to show the hubs.
Kobe was just happy to have some new boxes to chill on.
Here is a link to the product sources used in our space:
1. Ryan Wire Baskets {Medium and Large} | 2. Natural Wood Colton Mix & Match Desk Top 3. Blackened Metal Colton Mix & Match Desk Base 4. 5’x8′ Sari Bordered Woven Jute Satya Area Rug | 5. Ink Blue Jayda Dining Chair 6. Ronin Shelf | 7. Retro Avery Desk Clock | 8. Paper Clip On Stand 9. Concrete Diamond Accent Lamp Base | 10. Off-White Cotton-Linen Table Lamp Shade 11. Indigo Reactive Glaze Mug | 12. Bronze Metal Rhino Taper Candleholder
We recently painted our bedroom white and I have been working on editing down my accessories and keeping to more neutral tones, especially with Fall on the way.
Here are some photos of our new modern rustic office nook all set up on one side of our master bedroom:
I was so excited to display my wood slice art above the mix-and-match desk which was previously hung up in our dining room, but now it feels like it was meant to go in this space. Don’t you think?
While browsing through the area rugs I was instantly smitten by the Sari Bordered Woven rug. In fact, it may just be my favorite part of the space because it really ties everything together.
It was fun to customize the mix-and-match desk too, and I think the black base with the wood top lends itself to being both rustic and modern.
As soon as I saw the indigo mug I knew I had to have it. The beautiful color and organic shape seemed perfect not only as a coffee mug but as a pen holder too. Here is the photo I recently shared as a sneak peek of the space on Instagram.
The industrial style shelf is where form and function come together to create a rustic storage solution that can also be used to display some of your favorite accessories. I think this shelf could work perfectly in every room of the house…magazine rack, crafts, toiletries…
Our new office chair is super comfy and beautiful, and the color perfectly matches our navy and copper dresser, along with other navy accents in the room. The only problem is getting Kobe {our cat} to get out of it so I can actually sit down. I’m pretty sure he thinks it belongs to him. Ha.
On a side note, I did add a plastic chair mat after taking these photos, so sliding the chair in and out is a breeze.
Well, that’s our new modern rustic office space, which is now my favorite nook in the house!
Could your home use a little sprucing up for Fall? Perhaps a modern rustic office is in your future?
What pieces are you looking to spruce up your space with this fall season?

Love it!!!
Thanks, so do we and it definitely makes working in the space that much more enjoyable 🙂
oh it looks fantastic, Katie! I really adore that rug!
Thank you Chelsea and I am obsessed with this rug, it feels like it completes the space!
Such a beautiful space, Katie! I love, love, love that rug!
Thanks Alexis, me too!
This looks so good Katie! I love the rug. Now you will have your office where you can both work or you can go in here when you need to be alone. Ha! Working all day everyday with the hubs is going to be sooooo much fun!
Exactly! It’s going to be a tough decision though because this is definitely my favorite spot in the house now 🙂
Katie, this is just an incredible space! I love how all the details are important and help to make the space pull together so nicely. I’m loving the industrial cart along with that rug! And anything blue? Lets just say I’m drooling over that navy chair. Love it all!

Thanks Shonee! Yes the color of that chair is super dreamy and it’s soooo soft. It’s no wonder I have to fight the pets to sit in it, ha.
How awesome is this office, girl! Love your blue chair!
Thanks Aniko, me too!
As always… GORGEOUS!!! I love the rustic-y elements paired with the modern. That chair btw… totally swooning!
Thank you! Yes that chair is sooooooo comfy but it’s like musical chairs with the cats since they never want to move out of it, lol.
It’s amazing what a small world it is! I recently did a post on converting part of my bedroom into an office space. I love how your visions came together to an amazing and unique space. I need to make mine a reality! You’ve inspired me to do so.
