When Rachel from Like a Saturday asked if I’d like to be a part of a Holiday Traditions blog hop I originally hesitated. I love traditions, but to be honest I wasn’t sure if there were any Eric and I could share.
Sure there is heading out to pick out a tree the day after Thanksgiving, the list of movies we watch every year, the new ornament we pick out and driving around looking at Christmas lights while we sip on hot cocoa, but were those traditions? I guess in my mind I thought traditions would be saved until we had kids, but this quickly made me realize that it’s those little things we do that I look forward to each year and that they will only become more special once kids are added to the mix. So are they traditions? I’d like to think so.
I then got to thinking about how much I LOVED our hot chocolate bar station last year and decided to make that a new Christmas tradition. There is something so cozy about having a hot chocolate bar set up throughout the holidays, and I’ve added a few more goodies to the station this year.
A New Christmas Tradition
Last year I was all about adding cinnamon to my hot chocolate {thanks to Once Upon a Time}, but this year I’m sorta obsessed with adding vanilla or hazelnut creamer, a little too much whipped cream, and sprinkling it with crushed peppermint. Healthy, huh? 🙂
If you plan to create a hot chocolate bar this year, be sure to check out my free printable “Baby it’s Cold Outside” sign and chalkboard labels. I also offer larger sizes and slight variations in my shop here.
Since a few people have asked if I could share some non-chalkboard labels they can print from home, I am including some new ones that you can print on cardstock. I think they look adorable on kraft paper 🙂
This is for personal use only and cannot be re-sold or re-distributed.
I also did want to mention a few traditions Eric and I can’t wait to implement once we do have kids. There was a family I babysat for during high school that let their kids pick out one new ornament every year. This way when they left home at 18 they would have 18 ornaments to take with them and put on their own tree. Ever since they told me about this I knew it was something I wanted to share with our kids. Another is not only opening pajamas on Christmas Eve but games too. This way we can make it a PJ/game party. I may be cheesy but who doesn’t love cozy pajamas and game night, especially when you have a hot chocolate bar station on hand?
Are you going to be creating a new Christmas Tradition? I’d love to hear about them in the comments, and don’t forget to stop by all the creative bloggers sharing their traditions as well! I think you are really going to enjoy reading their ideas and stories 🙂

Welcome back, friend!! And true to form, your hot cocoa bar is adorable!
Fun! We have a coffee/hot drink bar in our home too and my favorite thing to do is add cinnamon on top of the whip cream. Yum. What a cute sign. 🙂

Oh, that combo sounds delicious! Calories don’t count at Christmas, right?? 😉
Thanks for sharing the printable labels!
Love, love, love that chalkboard printable!!! So cute!
This is such a great idea! When can I come over and partake in this hot chocolate awesomeness? 🙂
Love the printables! Super cute, Katie!
Love this! So fun to be a part of this tradition tour with you, Katie!
Can you please tell me what font you used for these tags? I’m hosting dinner and wanted to make upcycled tags LOVE your font. Thanks!
Hi Jennifer,
It’s the same font I used on the sign, which is a paid font called Ondise 🙂
