As you may already know, we recently purchased an RV, which we will be moving into and touring the country for a year come July 1st. In the meantime, we are going to be making some updates to the interior, and taking small trips to get us acclimated with the RV lifestyle.

We plan to post our design ideas along the way and would LOVE for you to be a part of the process. The plan is to share some of the design decisions where you can join in and vote for the final pick. And hey if you want to come over and help with the dirty work that’s cool too. 🙂

Help us decide what color to paint the RV kitchen cabinets in the RV

The first decision we need to make is what color to paint the RV kitchen cabinets on the lower section. So after painting several {and I mean SEVERAL} paint samples on wood, we have narrowed it down to 2 paint colors.

I have recently become obsessed with 2-tone cabinets in the kitchen and plan to paint the lower cabinets a darker color and the uppers all white.

I haven’t really seen bi-color cabinets in motorhomes before, but love it in “typical” kitchens as seen in the image below. Who knows if we will like the outcome but I figure it’s worth the risk. Besides, it’s just paint and paint can always be re-painted, right?

The plan has always been to go with an earthier gray, but I’ve gone back and forth on just how saturated we want the color.

My first concern was having the RV feel cavernous if we used a charcoal color, but since we will be using lots of white throughout and there are a decent number of windows, I felt the lower cabinets could have some color to them without making the space feel too dark. Plus I think the contrast will look beautiful!

Keep in mind that the overall plan for our {new to us} RV is for it to be rustic-modern with lots of white, wood and earth tones. I have to admit that I can be super indecisive so having you make some of the final decisions sounds like a great idea to me! Are you in?

Oh and just so you know, we will be changing the backsplash, flooring, possibly “staining” the counters, etc. in case you were wondering how those elements will look with the cabinets. We figure picking the cabinet paint color would be the best jumping-off point before making those final decisions. Of course, we would love for you to be involved in that process as well, and will keep you posted 🙂

You can vote via the survey below and the winning paint color will be ordered come Monday, yay! Thank you so much for joining us on this journey and I’d love to hear any thoughts you have in the comments below!

  1. The one big thing to take into account when thinking about the color of the lower cabinets is the color of the floor. If the floor is darker, then B would provide more contrast and if the floors are light, then A would do the trick! Like you said, it is just paint and you can re-do them…but who wants to!!!??? Can’t wait to see pictures of what you do with your new home!

    1. Agreed! We actually plan to do a vinyl wood planked floor. I just updated the post to mention that we will be changing a lot of the elements surrounding the cabinets because that definitely makes a huge difference and is a good thing to point out. We figure picking the cabinet paint color would be the best jumping off point before making all of the other decisions, and I hope you will be involved in those final decisions too!

  2. The Vinyl Planking that we’ve seen have some gorgeous barn wood colors with beautiful shades of gray in them…just a thought!

  3. I love that you are making over the RV! The two tone cabinet idea is great, maybe you will inspire RV manufacturers to think outside the box when it comes to their designs. I prefer A but I think either is going to look awesome!
