Do you love your office chair? I mean does it make you all giddy when you see it and difficult for you to want to get up? Mine definitely hasn’t always been that way, but I can honestly say it does now! That’s why today I am sharing my whimsical faux fur office chair makeover!
I bought this chair a few years ago when I wanted something neutral so it would go with anything. I also tend to go with microsuede fabrics since that seems to be the most pet friendly when it comes to scratches and stains.
Whimsical Faux Fur Office Chair Makeover
Well, I have been bored with it for some time and being that my office is filled with dark beige walls and wood floors I simply couldn’t allow any more beige in the room.
I have been obsessed with the look of sheepskin and Mongolian lamb in home decor, but I am not into using real animal fur. So I looked into faux fur options knowing that it would be the perfect way to brighten up the chair, make it super comfy and add a touch of whimsy to my office.
Sure it may look like something that belongs to a girl half my age, but I don’t care because I looooove how it turned out! Here is a photo of a PB Teen faux fur office chair that was part of my inspiration:
It’s funny because after I decided I wanted a white faux fur office chair I noticed I had pinned a ton of photos with white fur in them. Here are a few of them:

I looked up white faux fur fabric online to see where I could get the best bang for my buck since I’m on a super tight budget. Most of the fabrics were $20/yard and I figured I would probably need 1 1/2 yards for the chair and that was too much for me to spend on fabric since I’m cheap frugal.
One day while at Hancock Fabrics I found the perfect fabric and it was on sale for 50% off so I snatched it right up! I then walked around the store to grab a few more things only to realize the fur had shed all over my coat. Booooooo.
I sadly put the fur back knowing I couldn’t buy fabric that would turn me into the abominable snowman every time I sat down.
I was nervous about ordering fabric online and after coming across this awesome vintage faux fur stool makeover via Averie Lane I asked her where she bought her fabric, and if she had shedding issues. She had purchased hers on clearance at JoAnn’s a while back and it seemed to be working out just fine.
So off to JoAnn’s, I went with my 50% off coupon in hand. I found some awesome faux fur fabric and even walked around for a while to make sure it didn’t shed. It didn’t. My mom was with me and so we both bought a yard using our coupons. See I told you I was frugal, haha.
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen this photo a few weeks ago:
So after the fabric was cut and I was standing in line I realized it started shedding like mad. It was then that I realized the other fur fabric must have recently been cut and that’s why it was shedding all over me, and it probably would have worked too. Oh well.
I have to admit that I am not much of a seamstress. In fact I haven’t used a sewing machine since Home Ec class in the 9th grade {yikes} and I can tell you that was a looooooooong time ago. Of course that hasn’t held me back from sewing, by hand that is. I even reupholstered some yellow chevron dining chairs a couple years ago, all by hand because that’s all I knew how to do.
Well now that my mom lives in Georgia, has a sewing machine and loves to sew I enlisted her to help me with this project. She is even re-teaching me how to use the sewing machine, woo-hoo!
So one night we decided to remove the boring beige fabric, add some extra padding and then reupholster it using my new fabric. Okay so she did the reupholstering part but I did watch, haha. I also painted the chair legs in a fun turquoise color that I also used on my giant chalkboard and wood shim art.

And here is my super fun, whimsical faux fur office chair!
I love how the bright legs pop under my rustic desk and on top of my sharpie rug:
Did I mention this is the most comfortable chair ever? I think it’s perfect for a creative office or craft room… not to mention a kid’s room. I’d be happy to do homework in this chair.
Here is the before and after:
So what do you think? Have you transformed your office chair or plan to do so in the near future? If so I’d love to hear about it or check out your link via the comments below!
It’s so much fun to be able to add some nerdy, whimsical and girly touches to my office since I try to keep the rest of house more gender-neutral for Eric’s sake.

Hello!
Your chair is so cute! I’m so inspired by it to do the similar makeover on my office chair as well! May I ask however if you still remember what the fabric is exactly called? I was looking online at Jo-Ann’s and I’m not sure which one is it. Also, I would like to ask you as well for what kind of fur fabric exactly to use because some are like long hair and some are like short-haired. Which one is probably the best to use?
Thank you!
What a pretty transformation, such soft calming colors! I love it!!
wohoo.. amazing transformation… Loved It… 😀
