Have you heard of the One Room Challenge? It’s an interior design event that happens twice a year where 20 bloggers transform one room over a 6 week period. If you love dramatic before and after room transformations (and who doesn’t?!) then it’s the perfect resource for jaw-dropping, AH-MAZING inspiration!

The challenge is hosted by Linda of Calling It Home and in addition to the 20 design bloggers chosen to participate, anyone with a blog can actually join in as a guest participant. Eric and I were talking about it the other day, yes literally a couple days ago, and made the crazy decision to join the ORC this year. It’s gonna get intense, ya’ll!

The One Room Challenge – Spring 2016

The room we’ve decided to transform is…

Our RV! Well, the front of it anyway…

We don’t plan to include the entire RV, only the front which is essentially the living/dining area. The rest will have to happen after the 6 weeks, but before we leave on our year-long adventure. We’ll be sharing the progress made to our RV every Thursday for the next 5 weeks, leading up to the final reveal day on May 12th.

For those of you that are new here, welcome! My husband and I purchased a (new to us) RV and will be hitting the road full-time July 1st. We plan to travel the country for a year in search of the perfect mountain town to call home, which you can read more about here. However, before we head out we plan to transform our 2008 Tiffin Allegro Openroad 32LA (geez, isn’t that a mouthful?) into a rustic modern motorhome.

If you’ve been following along then you know we’ve been sloooooooowly making progress and I mean slower than a freakin’ tortoise slow, but holidays, winter and a major water leak set us back. We had shifted priorities around and blah blah blah but there’s no more time for excuses because we leave in a few months, and still have A LOT to do. Yikes!

So despite the fact that we were going to be working on the RV anyway, we decided this challenge would be the perfect opportunity to give us a kick in the right direction and force us to finally make some major headway.

Not gonna lie, I’m kinda scared. Okay, a lot scared but I love a good challenge so I’m also super excited. If nothing else, the RV should be much improved from the state it’s in now.

THE BEFORE:

Here are a couple before photos from when we first purchased the RV less than a year ago:

I’ve seen worse but it certainly isn’t our style.

Ummmm… at least the floors are finished 🙂

We have some custom furniture builds planned for this space including a sofa and a media cabinet that has a tv lift, telescoping table, and electric fireplace. We’re not professional woodworkers by any means but finding furniture that fits inside the RV that is multi-functional, stylish and lightweight without breaking the budget can certainly be a challenge. We are going to give it a go and let’s just hope nothing falls apart once we drive down the road. In addition to the custom furniture, we will be adding rustic details throughout while maintaining clean lines and pops of texture. Did someone say #shiplap?

Our goal is to create a mountain modern space that feels like home, no matter where we park it.

Don’t forget to check back next Thursday to see our design plan and the progress we’ve made. You can also follow along with our progress on Instagram and see what other participants are doing by searching the hashtag #oneroomchallenge or #ORC.
